Meet your Neighbors: Eve Bogdanove – Living with Terminal CanSer
Join us at the GPL on Wednesday, February 28, at 11 am, for a discussion on living with terminal canSer with local resident Eve Bogdanove. Eve has lived and worked in Greenfield for almost 20 years. In November 2022, she was diagnosed with Metastatic Uveal Melanoma, a rare & aggressive canSer for which there is no cure. Faced with an urgent need to prepare for end of life and research possible experimental clinical trials with the hope to extend her life, Eve ended her career as a social worker, educator and trauma therapist and began a deep study of learning how to surf the waves of fear & hope and LIVE so that she will only die once. This program, generously sponsored by the Friends of the Greenfield Public Library, is free and open to everyone.
Virtual Author Talk with Kim Scott
Virtual Author Talk with Kim Scott
Why is feedback so difficult, and how can we make it easier? The idea is simple: You don't have to choose between being a pushover and a jerk. Kim Scott, New York Times bestselling author of Radical Candor: Be a Kick-Ass Boss Without Losing Your Humanity, will explain the Radical Candor feedback framework and how you can practice it today. She'll offer practical, tactical tips for how to solicit criticism, give praise and criticism, gauge how what you're saying is landing, and build a culture of Radical Candor. She'll also discuss ensuring that bias, prejudice, and bullying don't masquerade as feedback. For more information, and to register for these and other upcoming talks, go to https://libraryc.org/greenfieldpubliclibrary  This program, brought to you by the Friends of the Greenfield Public Library in partnership with the Library Speakers Consortium, is free and open to the public.Â

GPL Goes to the Movies
Join us on Thursdays at 2 pm for âGPL goes to the Moviesâ. Due to licensing restrictions we canât share the names of the movie, but we can give you the following hint:  The production of a play is fraught with drama and romance in and of itself, from its writing and casting to rehearsals and staging. Onstage, the itinerary of a Junior Stargazer/Space Cadet convention is spectacularly disrupted by world-changing events while each attendee and their family members deal with their interpersonal issues. Rated PG-13 Doors open 30 minutes before the show starts. Outside food and drink are allowed. Local Authors at the GPL: Annie Chappell
The Greenfield Public Library welcomes local author Annie Chappell on Thursday, February 29, at 3 pm in the Conference Room, to discuss her book Away Up the North Fork: A Girlâs Search for Home in the Wilderness. In the 1970s, a girl dreams of a life where the world is simple, like Laura Ingalls Wilderâs Little House in the Big Woods. If she can get to that place, then the trouble she faces with alcohol, sex abuse and the sorrow of the modern-day issues will disappear. Home in Denver for break from boarding school in the Spring of 1973, she meets a mountain man, a Viet Nam vet, traveling through town, on his way back to his cabin on the Canadian border in Montana. In October, she runs away from boarding school in the East to find him, so he can teach her the wild ways. When the plan fails, she goes back to school to graduate, but corresponds with him for the rest of the school year, and after graduation, with her parentsâ blessing, makes her way to Montana from her Colorado home to live with him. Homesteading with an older man in the wilderness presents a set…

Virtual Author Talk: Nina Totenberg
You are invited to an intimate conversation with Nina Totenberg as she talks about her nearly fifty-year friendship with Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg and her book, Dinners With Ruth: A Memoir on the Power of Friendships. Dinners with Ruth is an extraordinary account of two women who paved the way for future generations by tearing down professional and legal barriers. It is also an intimate memoir of the power of friendships as women began to pry open career doors and transform the workplace. Ruth and Nina saw each other not only through personal joys but also illness, loss, and widowhood. They shared not only a love of opera, but also of shopping, as they instinctively understood that clothes were armor for women who wanted to be taken seriously in a workplace dominated by men. During Ruthâs last year, they shared so many small dinners that Saturdays were âreserved for Ruthâ in Ninaâs house. Inspiring and revelatory, Dinners with Ruth is a moving story of the joy and true meaning of friendship! Local Authors at the GPL: Sara Campbell and Shari Strahan
Join us at the Greenfield Public Library on Wednesday, March 13, at 3 pm as we celebrate Womenâs History month with local authors Sara Campbell and Shari Strahan. They will lead a discussion about their new book Did Grandma Have a Filling Station?, and the route to self publishing your own story.  Did Grandma Have a Filling Station? is the result of research into women's businesses in Greenfield in the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, exploring how they have contributed to commerce, agriculture, social and religious life, education, and on the most basic level, raising each generation of Greenfieldâs citizens. By shining a light on their stories, the past can be brought to life; exploring their history and achievements can inspire the current generation in many ways.  Are you interested in publishing your own story? They will show you how it is done. This topic is sure to generate some lively conversation! Copies of their book will be available for purchase. This program, generously sponsored by the Friends of the Greenfield Public Library, is free and open to the public.

Writers Read featuring Richard Michelson, Cherryl Jensen, and Alice Barrett
Writers Read is a monthly opportunity for an audience to come and listen to local writers in an intimate environment. Each second Wednesday of the month, three writers read from their work followed by time for the audience to join with the writers for a talkback. These discussions have been eye opening, touching, and inspiring. Audiences have left the venue ready to write. This series is facilitated by Lindy Whiton, a member of LAVA, and pulls from several different communities of writers throughout the local area. We are extremely lucky to draw from an abundance of talent. The yearâs calendar does bring in a few outside writers who agreed to travel. Watch this event future readers. $5 suggested donation ($1 Card-to-Culture) Richard Michelson has received a National Jewish Book Award, and his work was chosen to represent the Commonwealth at the National Book Festival in DC. He served two terms as Poet Laureate of Northampton, Massachusetts, where he hosts Northampton Poetry Radio and owns R. Michelson Galleries. Virtual Author Talk: Madeline Miller
Virtual Author Talk: Madeline Miller
Youâre invited to a fascinating exploratory conversation with Madeline Miller, bestselling author of The Song of Achilles and Circe, as she chats with us about her body of work and her process in retelling Greek classics into modern epics in fiction. Miller is known for writing mythological realism. Miller's novels re-imagine stories from Greek mythology, while focusing on themes that she considers timeless, like dysfunctional families and homesickness. The Song of Achilles, Miller's debut novel, set in Greece, tells the story from Patroclus' point of view and the bond that grew between him and Achilles. Circe, Miller's second novel is a modern reimagining told from the perspective of Circe, an enchantress in Greek mythology who is featured in Homer's Odyssey. Jarrett lives with his grandparents -- two very loud, very loving, very opinionated people who had thought they were through with raising children until Jarrett came along.
