Authors at the GPL: Jarrett J. Krosoczka
Join us at the Greenfield Public Library on Tuesday, April 2, at 5:30 pm as we welcome best selling author Jarrett J. Krosoczka. Jarrett will be giving a presentation on his 2018 National Book Award Finalist graphic memoir âHey, Kiddo: How I Lost My Mother, Found My Father, and Dealt with Family Addictionâ. Hey, Kiddo is a profoundly important memoir about growing up in a family grappling with addiction, and finding the art that helps you survive. In kindergarten, Jarrett Krosoczka's teacher asks him to draw his family, with a mommy and a daddy. But Jarrett's family is much more complicated than that. His mom is an addict, in and out of rehab, and in and out of Jarrett's life. His father is a mystery -- Jarrett doesn't know where to find him, or even what his name is. Jarrett lives with his grandparents -- two very loud, very loving, very opinionated people who had thought they were through with raising children until Jarrett came along. Jarrett goes through his childhood trying to make his non-normal life as normal as possible, finding a way to express himself through drawing even as so little is being said to him about what's…

Library Speaker Series (Recorded Author Talk): Madeline Miller
Join us in the GPL Conference Room on Tuesday, April 9, at 10 am for a prerecorded Author Talk with Madeline Miller. Youâre invited to a fascinating exploratory conversation with Madeline Miller, bestselling author of The Song of Achilles and Circe, as she chats with us about her body of work and her process in retelling Greek classics into modern epics in fiction. Miller is known for writing mythological realism. Miller's novels re-imagine stories from Greek mythology, while focusing on themes that she considers timeless, like dysfunctional families and homesickness. The Song of Achilles, Miller's debut novel, set in Greece, tells the story from Patroclus' point of view and the bond that grew between him and Achilles. Circe, Miller's second novel is a modern reimagining told from the perspective of Circe, an enchantress in Greek mythology who is featured in Homer's Odyssey. This program, brought to you by the Friends of the Greenfield Public Library in partnership with the Library Speakers Consortium, is free and open to the public.

Starting on March 5, Massachusetts Primary Election Day, and continuing throughout this yearâs election season, stop by the Greenfield Public Libraryâs Local History Room on Tuesdays to copy and reflect on the Declaration of Independence and the U.S. Constitution. Take a break from the hectic, often frenzied, election news coverage to study, reflect, and increase your understanding of our rights as citizens of the United States.  Copies of the documents and writing materials will be provided, but you are welcome to bring your own! This program is free and open to everyone in our community.
