Virtual Author Talk with Kim Scott
Virtual Author Talk with Kim Scott
Why is feedback so difficult, and how can we make it easier? The idea is simple: You don't have to choose between being a pushover and a jerk. Kim Scott, New York Times bestselling author of Radical Candor: Be a Kick-Ass Boss Without Losing Your Humanity, will explain the Radical Candor feedback framework and how you can practice it today. She'll offer practical, tactical tips for how to solicit criticism, give praise and criticism, gauge how what you're saying is landing, and build a culture of Radical Candor. She'll also discuss ensuring that bias, prejudice, and bullying don't masquerade as feedback. For more information, and to register for these and other upcoming talks, go to https://libraryc.org/greenfieldpubliclibrary  This program, brought to you by the Friends of the Greenfield Public Library in partnership with the Library Speakers Consortium, is free and open to the public.Â

Replete with tribal songs, flute and drum interludes and ambient sounds, this conversational telling of the story creates its own imagery, reflected by the voices interwoven throughout from Rich Holschuh, David Brule, Joe Graveline, Doug Harris and Elnu Abenaki Chief Roger Longtoe Sheehan. This program, generously sponsored by the Friends of the Greenfield Public Library, is free and open to everyone.

Beyond the Brain: Soul Exhaustion & Soul Care
Beyond the Brain: Soul Exhaustion & Soul Care
Throughout the history of humanity and within every known culture has been the concept of the soulâand yet over the last century or so, its value has lost much ground. For many people the idea of the soul, the essence of âwhoâ they are resonates deeply and yet has been significantly diminished by the medical model of mental health and addiction. This presentation will bring the concept of the soul back to the forefront of discussion in how we conceptualize ourselves and others as well as the concept of soul exhaustion. Soul exhaustion takes a deeper exploration of life circumstances such as poverty, adverse childhood experiences, racism, trauma, loss and burnout and the holistic impact it has on âwhoâ we are. When looking through the lens of soul exhaustion, we also must shift our thoughts on solutions to address the soul, spirit or essence of âwhoâ we are. Soul care, which has emphasis on non-clinical resources, goes deeper into understanding the ways in which we care for the âwho.â This presentation also explores how the concept of Soul Exhaustion and Soul Care can work in harmony with the medical model of mental health, substance use disorders and suicide prevention. Virtual Author Talk: Nina Totenberg
You are invited to an intimate conversation with Nina Totenberg as she talks about her nearly fifty-year friendship with Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg and her book, Dinners With Ruth: A Memoir on the Power of Friendships. Dinners with Ruth is an extraordinary account of two women who paved the way for future generations by tearing down professional and legal barriers. It is also an intimate memoir of the power of friendships as women began to pry open career doors and transform the workplace. Ruth and Nina saw each other not only through personal joys but also illness, loss, and widowhood. They shared not only a love of opera, but also of shopping, as they instinctively understood that clothes were armor for women who wanted to be taken seriously in a workplace dominated by men. During Ruthâs last year, they shared so many small dinners that Saturdays were âreserved for Ruthâ in Ninaâs house. Inspiring and revelatory, Dinners with Ruth is a moving story of the joy and true meaning of friendship! Local Authors at the GPL: Sara Campbell and Shari Strahan
Join us at the Greenfield Public Library on Wednesday, March 13, at 3 pm as we celebrate Womenâs History month with local authors Sara Campbell and Shari Strahan. They will lead a discussion about their new book Did Grandma Have a Filling Station?, and the route to self publishing your own story.  Did Grandma Have a Filling Station? is the result of research into women's businesses in Greenfield in the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, exploring how they have contributed to commerce, agriculture, social and religious life, education, and on the most basic level, raising each generation of Greenfieldâs citizens. By shining a light on their stories, the past can be brought to life; exploring their history and achievements can inspire the current generation in many ways.  Are you interested in publishing your own story? They will show you how it is done. This topic is sure to generate some lively conversation! Copies of their book will be available for purchase. This program, generously sponsored by the Friends of the Greenfield Public Library, is free and open to the public.

GPL Goes to the Movies
GPL Goes to the Movies
Join us on Thursdays at 2 pm for âGPL goes to the Moviesâ. Due to licensing restrictions we canât share the names of the movie, but we can give you the following hint:  Hundreds of thousands of cats roam the metropolis of Istanbul freely. For thousands of years they've wandered in and out of people's lives, becoming an essential part of the communities that make the city so rich. Claiming no owners, these animals live between two worlds, neither wild nor tame, and they bring joy and purpose to those people they choose to adopt. In Istanbul, cats are the mirrors to the people, allowing them to reflect on their lives in ways nothing else could. NR Doors open 30 minutes before the show starts. Outside food and drink are allowed. All movies start at 2 p.m. and run until completed, unless otherwise indicated. For more information, contact Jeremiah Rood at librarian@greenfieldpublic library.org or call (413) 772-1544. Movies are free to the public, thanks to the generous support of the Friends of the Greenfield Public Library.

In the 1980âs I lived in New York City where I studied acting and tapped into Big Apple essence. Then back to Boston, where I acted in various scripted roles and then found improv, and havenât been the same since. I performed in improv groups and productions in Boston and Brattleboro, and taught teen groups in Keene, NH and most recently, Zoomed improv during the pandemic. Many of the surefire routes to joy, in my life, have been the times Iâve spent doing improv-based activities, whether itâs creating, playing, performing or just transforming a moment. Authors at the GPL: Jarrett J. Krosoczka
Join us at the Greenfield Public Library on Tuesday, April 2, at 5:30 pm as we welcome best selling author Jarrett J. Krosoczka. Jarrett will be giving a presentation on his 2018 National Book Award Finalist graphic memoir âHey, Kiddo: How I Lost My Mother, Found My Father, and Dealt with Family Addictionâ. Hey, Kiddo is a profoundly important memoir about growing up in a family grappling with addiction, and finding the art that helps you survive. In kindergarten, Jarrett Krosoczka's teacher asks him to draw his family, with a mommy and a daddy. But Jarrett's family is much more complicated than that. His mom is an addict, in and out of rehab, and in and out of Jarrett's life. His father is a mystery -- Jarrett doesn't know where to find him, or even what his name is. Jarrett lives with his grandparents -- two very loud, very loving, very opinionated people who had thought they were through with raising children until Jarrett came along. Jarrett goes through his childhood trying to make his non-normal life as normal as possible, finding a way to express himself through drawing even as so little is being said to him about what's…

Wednesday Night Writers Workshop
Wednesday Night Writers Workshop
Writers are invited to attend a weekly informal gathering on Wednesday nights at 6 pm, in the GPL Local History Room, to workshop their prose and poetry in-progress. Everyone is welcome to bring three single-spaced or six double-spaced pages max and enough copies so that everyone can read along and provide feedback. Writers will take turns reading their work aloud, with a volunteer moderator leading the discussion. Writers arenât allowed to talk while being critiqued. This program, made possible through the generosity of the Friends of the Greenfield Public Library, is free and intended for ages 12 and up.
