The Visibility Project, An Exhibit by Artist Malaika Ross

Greenfield Public Library 412 Main St, Greenfield, MA, United States

In October  we'll be exhibiting Malaika Ross's art show The Visibility Project in our Conference Room, with a reception with Malaika on Friday, October 25, from 5:00 - 8:00 pm.   “The Visibility Project is a series of paintings that center black female breast cancer survivors whose chests were radically transformed after surgical treatment. 1 in 8 US women will be diagnosed with breast cancer during the course of their lifetime. According to the American Cancer Society, ‘black women are more likely to die from breast cancer than women of any other racial or ethnic group’ yet we are excluded and deemed invisible in paintings. Malaika wants to change this”.

GPL Art Show: The Towns of Franklin County

Greenfield Public Library 412 Main St, Greenfield, MA, United States

The Greenfield Library will be hosting a photography exhibit entitled The Towns of Franklin County from October 1 through November 30, 2024. This exhibit will feature pictures from each of the 26 towns in Franklin County. The images have been provided by 26 members of the Springfield Photographic Society, capturing the uniqueness of the communities, and illustrating their history, culture, public spaces, and natural beauty. Each photographer chose one perspective that they felt was important to understanding their town. One of the strengths of the exhibit is the large number of contributing photographers - providing a wider range of perspective than what could have been achieved with one or two contributors. Those photographers with a passion for nature found the natural beauty in their assignment. Other photographers wanted to feature historical sites or local businesses. The Towns of Franklin County is the final installment of a long term project undertaken by the club to capture images from all 102 towns in the four counties of Western Massachusetts.
