    Join FreeWrite of Franklin County’s Amie Hyson and Gretchen Krull and other area women in our community for this creative writing workshop which encourages each participant to explore their unique voice through the written word on Tuesday nights at 6:30 pm. FreeWrite believes that there is no wrong way to write, that each of us has a unique voice and that bringing that voice to life, on the page, helps us to heal & grow. No experience necessary, come as you are and meet writers in our community! Supplies will be provided.     Writers are invited to attend a weekly informal gathering on Wednesday nights at 6 pm, in the GPL Local History Room, to workshop their prose and poetry in-progress. Everyone is welcome to bring three single-spaced or six double-spaced pages max and enough copies so that everyone can read along and provide feedback. Writers will take turns reading their work aloud, with a volunteer moderator leading the discussion. Writers aren’t allowed to talk while being critiqued. This program, made possible through the generosity of the Friends of the Greenfield Public Library, is free and intended for ages 12 and up.

    Writers Read is a monthly opportunity for an audience to come and listen to local writers in an intimate environment. Each second Wednesday of the month, three writers read from their work, followed by a discussion facilitated by Lindy Whiton, designer of Writers Read. These discussions have been eye opening, touching, and inspiring. Audiences have left the venue ready to write. Jan Maher’s novels Heaven, Indiana; Earth As It Is; and short fiction collection The Persistence of Memory and Other Stories have each won Kirkus “Best Of” designations. Her stories and poems have been published regionally in Meat for Tea: The Valley Review; Compass Roads: Poems about the Pioneer Valley; Spoken Word in the Woods: An Anthology celebrating The Word Stage 10th Year – at The North Quabbin Garlic & Arts Festival – celebrating 25 years; and Valley and Beyond: A Writers Read Anthology. She is a co-coordinator at The LAVA Center, where she has read for Writers Read and Paul Richmond’s Third Tuesday. Each week we will explore a different theme through literary and artistic references, group discussion, and generative writing prompts provided live and in session.   • Deep Dive: Virginie Despentes! with Sierra Dickey

    Writing class war with a queer-punk-hard-femme lens. Immerse into the works and aesthetics of french queer punk lesbian icon Virginie Despentes. Virginie Despentes is the author of multiple novels, a film, and a small book of feminist theory. All of her work explores race, class, and gender violence in France through criminal underworlds and cultural margins. In this workshop we will read excerpts of her works and generate new work inspired by her style, scope, and political thrust. Expect to spend half of class discussing, and half of class doing collaborative writing prompts.
