We will be working our way through many brilliant and unusual carols from England including carols, wassails and other related seasonal songs. Anchored by the participants in the English Village Carols course led by Laurel Swift and Alex Cumming, all are welcome to sing along. There will be lyric sheets available, and a little time to sing some other festive favorites. Four Phantoms is a family friendly venue, and they feature a small food menu and a wide variety of beer, cider, mead, seltzer, and non-alcoholic beverages.

The screening of 'The Strong Man' on Monday, Jan. 6 at 6:30 p.m., gives families a chance to enjoy a fun activity suitable for all ages. The Garden Cinemas are located at 361 Main St., Greenfield, Mass.. The screening, the latest in the Garden Cinemas' silent film series, will feature live accompaniment by Jeff Rapsis, a New Hampshire-based composer who specializes in creating scores for silent films. Directing 'The Strong Man' was young first-timer Frank Capra, who would later go on to create such Hollywood classics as 'Mr. Smith Goes to Washington' (1939) and 'It's a Wonderful Life' (1946). 'The Strong Man' tells the story of a World War I soldier (Langdon) who, following his discharge, finds work as assistant to a circus strong man. Stella Kola at Roundabout Books (with Cosmic Ray)
Roundabout Books 85 Pierce Street, GreenfieldI'm happy to have the date for our next concert, as well, Stella Kola, whose music I admire very much, will perform January 17th at 7pm in our accessible, upstairs performance space. Hailing from the misty grottos and orchards of Western Massachusetts, Stella Kola weave haunting ballads that dig deep into the psychedelic-folk tradition while shapeshifting into captivating new forms. Initially a duo formed in 2019 as a songwriting project between poet/vocalist Beverly Ketch and musician Robert Thomas (founding member of the long running improvisational group Sunburned Hand of the Man), the project steadily swelled to a sextet. The lineup now consists of Ketch on vocals, Thomas on acoustic guitar, Wednesday Knudsen on flute & sax, Jen Gelineau on viola, Jeremy Pisani on guitar & synth and Jim Bliss on bass. Cosmic Ray will be opening for Stella Kola. Cosmic Ray is a solo project of Shannon Ketch, also of Sunburned Hand of the Man and Animal Piss, It's Everywhere (APIE). Join us for a weekend of celebrating 5 years of community arts, theater, literature, storytelling, comedy, music, film, photography, history, humanities and more in downtown Greenfield. Our celebration coincides with Greenfield’s Winter Carnival, just as our grand opening did in 2020. All events are FREE to attend — donations are gladly welcome to help support future LAVA programming! Friday, Jan. 31 5–8pm: Exhibit launch and reception: “History of LAVA: Memorabilia and Photography” On Friday night, we will launch our exhibit for the month of February, a display of memorabilia and photos depicting the growth of the arts at The LAVA Center over the past five years. Staff has compiled an exhibit of programming and growing at the center.
