Pile

Hawks & Reed Ballroom 289 Main St., Greenfield, MA, United States

Indie Rock trailblazers Pile come all the way out west from Boston for a night at Hawks and Reed Pile, led by Rick Maguire, is all about rediscovering the joy of experimentation and fun in music. Their eighth album, "All Fiction," showcases their most intricate work yet, blending blistering drums and riffs with strings, vocal distortions, and synths. From the eerie opener "It Comes Closer" to the uplifting "Neon Gray," the album delves into perception, technology, anxiety, and the power of art. For fifteen years, Pile has been hailed as "your favorite band's favorite band," constantly pushing boundaries from Boston basements to global stages. Maguire's vivid lyrics, backed by Kris Kuss's timeless drumming and gnarled basslines, create a surreal sonic landscape. With the addition of Alex Molini and Chappy Hull, their sound evolved, reaching new heights of complexity on 2019's "Green and Gray." But Pile isn't afraid of change—Maguire even swapped his guitar for piano on their seventh album, proving their commitment to artistic exploration.
