Make a Marionette with a British control!
Looky Here 28 chapman street, greenfield, MA, United StatesStarts May 7th @ 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm $225 All Materials Included Vermont based painter and puppet-maker, Julia Zanes will teach this marionette building class using skills and designs handed down from Mrs. Barbara Richards of “The Small World Theater” in Hopkinton NH. This “British Control” style of marionette is easier to make and control and leaves much elbow room for personal vision while still making a marionette that can “imitate life”. All materials will be included in the cost of this 7 week class which will run from 5/7-6/18 from 6-8pm on Wednesday evenings.

Join us for a drop-in writing space, open to all and free (donations to Looky Here for letting us use the space are encouraged). We will say hello to each other, share a prompt or brief piece to get us going, but mostly we will just write together. This is not a workshopping group or an open mic, come with your notebook or laptop and get ready to get some words on the page in good company.
Deep Dive: Virginie Despentes! with Sierra Dickey

Immerse into the works and aesthetics of french queer punk lesbian icon Virginie Despentes. Virginie Despentes is the author of multiple novels, a film, and a small book of feminist theory. All of her work explores race, class, and gender violence in France through criminal underworlds and cultural margins. In this workshop we will read excerpts of her works and generate new work inspired by her style, scope, and political thrust. Expect to spend half of class discussing, and half of class doing collaborative writing prompts. Mondays May 12 – June 2 $140 total for 4 weeks 6:30pm – 8:00pm masks required 1 free spot for a low-income student

Occult Poetics: Talk by CA Conrad
Looky Here 28 chapman street, greenfield, MA, United StatesIn this talk, CAConrad will discuss how poets’ occult and paranormal experiences and practices in the past show us how to trust that these same forces are alive and at work today. Rumi, Hannah Weiner, Will Alexander, Hoa Nguyen, Alice Notley, and Ariana Reines are some poets whose work and practices we will investigate. CA will also discuss (Soma)tic Poetry Rituals as a practice for all writers and artists. These rituals provide a window into the creative viability of everything around us, initiating an “extreme present,” where we learn how, even in crisis, we can thrive through the poems and learn to collaborate in unexpected ways with other artistic disciplines. Former US-Poet Laureate Tracy K. Smith wrote in The New York Times, “CAConrad’s poems invite the reader to become an agent in a joint act of recovery, to step outside of passivity and propriety and to become susceptible to the illogical and the mysterious.” CAConrad has worked with the ancient technologies of poetry and ritual since 1975.
