A night of diasporic dancing with Mariposas Galácticas and DJ Bongohead!Las Mariposas Galácticas is an 8-piece Cumbia Klezmer Punkband and cultural project based in Philadelphia, PA. Combiningband members’ South American and Jewish ancestries, theband creates a unique diasporic sound that gets audienceseverywhere dancing with rebellious joy. By honoring theirIndigenous Andean musical ancestries, blended together withpunkified ancient Jewish melodies, the band plays a mixture oforiginal and classic tunes that span different languages, cultures,and genres. Las Mariposas have toured the east coast andcollaborated with international acts such as the renownedMexican rock band Los Cogelones and Argentinian Tropi-punkgroup Kumbia Queers. They have headlined the L.A.T.I.N.PunkFest in Philadelphia and NYC and continue to accompanytheir communities’ struggle for liberation everywhere fromprominent stages to cultural, activist and community spaces.They will be joined by DJ Bongohead!
