LifePath Information Session: Healthy Living 2023
Greenfield Public Library 402 Main St, Greenfield, MA, United StatesAndi Waisman, of LifePath’s Healthy Living Department, will be at the Greenfield Public Library on Monday, May 1, from 1 - 3 pm, to offer information and answer questions about their free “Healthy Living 2023” Spring workshops. For people of any age who are living with chronic health conditions, their caregivers and family members, LifePath's workshops provide individuals with the information, skills, and support they need to take charge of their health. LifePath, is a private, non-profit corporation that develops, provides, and coordinates a range of services to support independent living. LifePath provides home and community programs for Franklin County LifePath also operates programs in Hampshire, Hampden, and Berkshire Counties. LifePath has been providing family support and home and community-based services for elders and persons with disabilities living in Franklin County and the North Quabbin areas since 1974. This program, generously supported by the Friends of the Greenfield Public Library, is free and open to the public. This outside event is weather dependent.
Massachusetts National Park Lunchtime Lecture Series
Greenfield Public Library 402 Main St, Greenfield, MA, United StatesEnjoy a virtual lunchtime tour of the Saugus Iron Works National Historic Site, on Wednesday, May 3, at 12 pm, with Supervisory Park Ranger Andrew Donovan. In the 1600's, on the banks of the Saugus River, something extraordinary happened -- the birth of the American Iron and Steel Industry! Explore the place where European iron makers brought their special skills to a young Massachusetts colony. Saugus Iron Works is a twelve-acre National Historic Site that includes working waterwheels, forges, mills, a historic 17th century home, and a lush river basin. NOTE: This program will be recorded. The GPL Presents: “What’s Wrong With My HousePlant?”
Greenfield Public Library 402 Main St, Greenfield, MA, United StatesJoin the Greenfield Public Library, in collaboration with the Tewksbury Public Library, for the virtual program What's Wrong With My House Plant?, on Thursday May 4, at 2 pm. As with our outdoor gardens, many things can go wrong when you grow plants indoors. Learn the factors that make for happy houseplants, including light, water, and soil...and how to provide them. Common houseplant pests and diseases are also on the agenda, as well as how to treat them. Led by Bonnie Power, a Massachusetts Master Gardener, and a serious outdoor/indoor gardener most of her life. Curious and research-oriented by nature, she has many horticultural interests and areas of expertise. Bonnie holds both a bachelor’s and a master’s degree in Zoology, which informs her perspective on the management of garden insects; she is also an administrator for a “sick houseplant” group on Facebook. RSVP of the Pioneer Valley Information Session

Pat Sicard of RSVP of the Pioneer Valley will be at the Greenfield Public Library on Wednesday, May 10, from 10 am - 12 pm to offer information and answer questions on how to become involved. Now celebrating their 50th anniversary, RSVP of the Pioneer Valley has helped hundreds of seniors find volunteer opportunities close to home. RSVP is a federal AmeriCorps Seniors program, locally sponsored by Community Action. RSVP helps people 55 and older stay healthy and engaged, and find meaningful volunteer opportunities in their community that fit their interests, experience and availability. Currently 400 active RSVP volunteers assist 53 non-profit Partner Agencies in Hampshire, Franklin and Hampden Counties. Can’t make it to the library that day? GPL Presents: “Singing Frogs with the Mass Audubon”
Greenfield Public Library 402 Main St, Greenfield, MA, United StatesOne sure sign of spring is the sound of singing frogs. Why do frogs sing, and how can we identify their calls? Frogs can be very sensitive to pollution and climate change and can be a strong indicator of how healthy an environment is. Learn the different frogs found in Massachusetts, as well as how to identify them by their calls. Wrap up with information on “Frogwatch," a community science project in which individuals can monitor populations by documenting their sounds. GPL’s Pop Up Library & Story Time at the Greenfield Farmers Market

Kid’s Sun Science Take & Makes

There's no better time for a fun project that's part art, part science and shows how sunscreen works and why wearing it is a good idea. Kits include everything you need (just add sunshine) including a small tube of SPF. Kits will be available in the Children's Room and at the Greenfield Farmers Market GPL storytime starting Saturday, May 20, while supplies last.
