I specialize in custom home dec sewing and embroidery services with a down-to-earth, environmentally conscious, and budget-friendly approach.
Kate’s Threads is based in Greenfield, MA, with a satellite location in Newburyport MA. I specialize in custom embroidery, monogramming, and sewing services for special events, home, and business. Small projects are welcome, so even if you just need one item I’d be happy to work with you to create something distinctive and memorable.
Feel free to provide your own items (purchased locally or online), or browse the selections available from many of the catalog sources I use. And if you can’t locate exactly what you have in mind, there’s a strong chance I can make it for you from scratch (including custom home decor pillows, curtains, table linens, accessories, and more). I can also repair or up-cycle home items which have seen a bit of wear but still have plenty of life in them.
About me…I’ve been sewing since the age of 10. My mother taught me how to steer her old Singer so that I could help hem crib sheets for my younger siblings. Two years in West Virginia 4H taught me how to stitch by hand, embroider, read a pattern, and construct my junior-high wardrobe.
My first years in Boston taught me how to shop the garment district for high quality home dec remnants and designer textiles, and to delve into crafting my own (financially necessary) “shabby chic” apartment fashions long before the look had an actual branded name. My years as a lifestyle editor and fashion writer introduced me to innovative designers whose creations ranged from Madison Avenue elegance to Soho funky chic. And my years as an at-home mom on a budget — working as a writer to make sure I’d be home when my kids walked through the door — taught me how to work fast and make every penny count.
Although I am based in Greenfield, MA, I make frequent trips to the greater Newburyport area where I lived prior to moving to the Pioneer Valley in 2017. Whether you’re in the market for embroidery, custom home dec sewing services, sewing instruction, or any other textile-related support, I hope you’ll get in touch to schedule a no-obligation get-acquainted appointment. Thanks for visiting!
