Constitution Day at LAVA: Reading/Discussion of the Constitution
About This Event
Inspired by the Greenfield Public Library’s announcement that they are giving away copies of The Constitution on Saturday, The LAVA Center is pleased to announce a participatory reading of The Constitution.
All are welcome to bring their copy and help to read the document aloud or to listen as others read. There will be copies on hand to share for those who don’t have one.
Following the reading, there will be a discussion. Bring your questions, comments, and concerns, too. What does the Constitution say about topics currently in the news? How has the Constitution and how it has been interpreted by the Supreme Court and Congress impacted our lives in Massachusetts over time? Let’s explore together!
Capping the afternoon’s activities is an opportunity to record thoughts about our country’s foundational document at a story booth.
Teachers and students of history, and all who are concerned about current questions of constitutionality that are in the news are particularly encouraged to participate.
Pick up your copy of the Constitution at Greenfield Public Library and then head down Main Street to The LAVA Center, 324 Main Street. LAVA is open at noon; the reading will begin at 12:30 p.m. and is expected to take up to an hour, followed by discussion and story booth recording.
There is no charge for this event, though donations are always welcome to sustain LAVA’s programming.
