Crossroads Cultural District

Do you like journeying off the beaten path and discovering new delights in unexpected places? Visit the Crossroads Cultural District and find something cool and different in every corner; Greenfield proves the adage that great things come in small packages. Come enjoy the completeness of a quirky, small, old-fashioned, full-service New England town that’s enjoying a blossoming of arts, music, history, and culture as more and more artists of all stripes discover this easily-accessible yet hidden Western Mass treasure.

Located right off the junction of Route 2 and I91, with the Mohawk Trail (2A) and scenic Routes 5 & 10 running directly through it, the Crossroads Cultural District in Greenfield is aptly named. Originally the crossroads of the Boston-Albany and Montreal-New York travel ways in the 18th and 19th centuries, Greenfield is now the perfect spot for skiiers, cyclists, and leaf-peepers to stop for a spell.

Enjoy myriad dining options in a half-mile stretch featuring food from all over the world as well as our own Connecticut River Valley. Shop for books, records, musical instruments, handcrafted gifts, clothing, jewelry, and toys or check out one of the oldest family-run department stores in the country, 136-year-old Wilson’s. Breath in the fresh air at one of three downtown public gathering spaces: the Town Common, Veterans Mall, or Energy Park, where you can also catch a free summertime concert in the bandshell. Check out all the murals, sculptures, banners, and other public art as you stroll down Main Street on your way to the Greenfield Gallery to check out a new show or purchase locally-made crafts. Take in a first-run movie on one of seven screens at the Greenfield Garden Cinemas. After dinner enjoy a beverage at one of the welcoming bars and taverns or head out to hear every kind of music under the sun at the Arts Block and the Root Cellar. Come for events such as the Full Disclosure Festival (theater and art), the GAWFest (Greenfield Annual Word Festival), or the OMFG (One Minute Festival Greenfield) film festival.

From a painted parking meter to a mural that covers the side of a building, from a single busker to a week-long spoken word festival, there’s always something to find in the Crossroads Cultural District.
