The Greenfield Public Library welcomes photographer Alix Kaplan and their exhibit Home is a River, which will be on display in the Library’s Conference Room this April. An opening reception will be held in the Conference Room on Wednesday, April 2, from 5:00 - 7:30 pm. Alix Kaplan grew up an only child and learned early on that the environment offers a companionship to all those who need it. They hold a degree in Environmental Studies from Tufts University and a handful of awards from film festivals for their work in animation. Alix now resides in Greenfield, MA working for a local conservation organization, Connecticut River Conservancy. Their photographs are the culmination of artistic curiosity and environmental stewardship.

Ready to clean out your closet for Spring? Drop off your old duds and browse for some new looks. Drink a beer with your friends and do one of those fashion montages where you try on a bunch of different things to varying levels of approval. Any clothes without a new home by the end of the day will be donated to Redistro, your friendly neighborhood Free Store. Please only bring clothes in wearable condition (clean, no rips, tears, etc.) Nobody wants your worn out socks. 🙂 Join us for GCC's spring theater performance of Book of Days by Lanford Wilson, directed by Tom Geha. Part comedy, drama and mystery! When murder roars through a small Missouri town in 1998, Ruth Hoch begins her own quest to find truth and honesty amid small town jealousies, religion, greed and lies. This tornado of a play propels you through its events like a page-turning mystery and proves that there are no small roles in life. "An intriguing, prismatic and thoroughly engrossing depiction of contemporary small-town life with a murder mystery at its core... a splendid evening of theater" — Variety "Fascinating… a densely populated, unpredictable little world intriguing characters who touch each other’s lives through an elaborate series of connections… Above all, there’s the language… You could go to the theater night after night and never hear language so supple." — St. Louis Post-Dispatch. $15 general admission, $5 students/seniors. Buy tickets online or cash at the door.

In May, stop by the GPL Local History Room as we celebrate Reverend Lorenzo Langstroth, Greenfield resident and the “Father of Modern Beekeeping”. Langstroth developed the moveable frame beehive, which made it possible to harvest honey and check on the bee's health without destroying the bee hive. When Langstroth wrote his classic book Hive and the Honey-Bee in 1853, he included inspiration from some of the English language’s great poets and playwrights. Langstroth generally quoted a select few lines of poetry or prose, but we have expanded those to show the full context of the material. Think of this as a literary garden, with a Langstroth bee flying among its lines and branches. The self-guided program will be on view in the Local History Room for the month of May.

Located at The RECOVER Project 68 Federal St, Zoom ID 413 774 5489 password 7745489 On every last Friday of the month downtown Greenfield comes alive in a celebration of the local arts scene! The Greenfield Arts Walk is a town-wide event featuring a cohort of local arts organizations including Madhouse Multi-Arts, Hawks & Reed, and Greenfield Gallery to name a few. The Arts Walk's mission is to grow the local creative community and economy by attracting interest from beyond the region while strengthening the connections within. During the Arts Walk, many featured destinations showcase work submitted by local artists, providing them with an excellent opportunity to gain a stronger local following and sell their work. Presenting the monthly Handicraft Social which we’ll be hosting on the final Friday of the month at 5pm! Join us at 231 Main Street during the Arts Walk for a relaxed night of adult (18+ please) crafting and chatting. Bring something fun to do with your hands, be it knitting, sewing, drawing, sculpting, or any other project you can take along with you! Bring whatever tools/supplies you need, as this event is downstairs in the gallery and we won’t have access to the tools in the makerspace. This event is BYOB–Bring Your Own Beverage. Alcoholic and non-alcoholic are welcome. We hope to see you there!
