The Sound of America: Influences of Negro Spirituals on American Music

Join GCC to celebrate Black History Month with an evening of marvelous narrative vocal performances by highly-acclaimed operatic tenor Perry Brisbon, Director of Turning Point, University Choir and Templeton Honors College Chorale at Eastern University. Brisbon's narrative performance chronicles the evolution of African American musical traditions commencing with "negro spirituals" and their influence on blues, gospel, jazz, classic soul, rock ’n’ roll, funk, disco, house, reggae and hip-hop. Vocal narrations will educate and celebrate the poignant, perennial influences of Black artists on American music. Free and open to the public. Light refreshments provided, RSVP requested.
