A group of Marlboro College Alumni will present work at the LAVA Center gallery for the month of August. This is their second year presenting an art show. This year includes many of the same artists and several new ones. This show has been organized by Kevin McCamant, Annie Quest and Lindy Whiton who all attended Marlboro 50 years ago. The show will include ceramics, painting, photography and printmaking. The artists primarily live in the Northeast, many of them in the Valley. Last year we produced this event in order to have a reunion. It was very successful and did draw a crowd of 60 alumni at the reception alone. This year we hope to gather many at the reception on August 8th at 11:00 to 2 pm, and that everyone attends gallery hours and comes to see the array of artworks produced primarily by a group of retirees who are spending time with their art forms at this point in their lives. The artists include; Neil Bakalar (New York), Mark Manley (New Hampshire), Annie Quest (Vermont), Tony Savoie (Massachusetts), J. Mark Littlehales (Vermont), Diane Worth (Massachusetts), Matthew Tell (Vermont), Kevin McCamant (Maryland), Steve Kemish (Massachusetts), and Lindy Whiton (Massachusetts).

Why mask required? As we find ourselves in a world where for most of us, medical care is unaffordable, air quality is poor, and there is a growing population of Long Covid survivors and other folks who need or choose to be cautious about airborne pathogens, many in the performance community have been left behind because of the choice to wear respirator masks. Who is Molly Brennan? Molly Brennan enjoyed a 30 year career as a professional stage actor in Chicago, but the Covid pandemic changed her path, and she had to find other ways to make a living. She and her wife moved to Massachusetts in the fall of 2025, and Molly has slowly been returning to her art, as a teacher, playwright, director and performer. She wears an…

This vision is actualized in THE RENEWAL SOCIETY project, which focuses on re-using and reclaiming through the art and craft of repair. Join Christine Mirabal for an opening reception for her art exhibit, “Escape!” Artist Statement The focus of Christine’s art is primarily the natural world. She finds it soothing to depict skies and clouds, forests and creeks, and seas and rocks, as well as animals. In the paintings in this exhibit, the theme is escape. Nature is a place that many people run to. It provides nourishment for the soul and brings peace to troubled minds. These pieces invite the viewer to put aside their cares and step into worlds that are familiar and at times, comforting. They vary from starry skies, to smooth seas, to babbling brooks. But dark, moody, clouds and wild vegetation are also included as Nature has many facets and not all of them are calm. Still, Nature is a part of humanity and to escape to her is to run home. Artist Biography Christine Mirabal is an emerging Latina artist who has been painting with acrylics for over three years. Her style is abstract and nature inspired. She mainly paints landscapes, animals, and flowers. Other subject matters include cityscapes, feminism, and the depiction of underrepresented voices. Her pieces range from colorful to black-and-white and are playful,…
