Join us on Monday, April 6 at 6:00 pm, for a cozy, creative embroidery workshop that meets once a month in the GPL Makerspace! Whether you’re brand new to embroidery or already have a project underway, this is the perfect space to learn, stitch, and connect. Each session will cover essential embroidery basics—like simple stitches, hooping techniques, and finishing touches—while also giving you plenty of time to continue your own projects at a relaxed pace. Bring your own materials or borrow ours. All are welcome from beginners to pro stitchers! This month we’ll be making embroidered felt bookmarks! This program, generously supported by the Friends of Greenfield Public Library, is free and intended for teens and adults, ages 13+. No experience is necessary. This is the perfect time of year to cut up old clothing and turn it into something you can use to stay warm. We will focus on making quilts or anything smaller that can be hand pieced. The focus will not be on using patterns, but making your own. It doesn’t matter if you have never threaded a needle–I will help you. Come to have fun and experiment!! Chaperoned children are welcome if they want to learn too. Materials included!

Each month will feature a new project inspired by the time of year—think cozy autumn décor, festive holiday creations, and spring florals. Whether you’re a beginner or an experienced crafter, you’ll enjoy learning new techniques, sharing ideas, and creating something unique to take home. Come for the crafts, stay for the community! Join Jesse Green, Star of “ American Chainsaw” on the National Geographic Channel at the Greenfield Public Library for The Dangerous Art of Chainsaw Sculpture on Saturday, May 2, at 11:00 am. Over the course of the last 20+ years doing this, Jesse has been commissioned to create large-scale sculptures for celebrities, foreign royalty, rock stars, corporations, networks, the military, cities, towns, universities, art collectors and so much more. Online his work has gone viral several times over, repeatedly being a top trend on Twitter, Instagram, Facebook and viewed and shared by millions around the world. He is the official chainsaw sculptor of Husqvarna USA, and author of the book series Chainsaws, Cheeseburgers and Rock n' Roll! Jesse has a degree in Fine Arts, Sculpture/ 3-D Studies from The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth, once spent an entire summer living on the beach in Hawaii, crossed the entire country up, down, over and back in a van, has played with over 100 different bands and other musical acts across The U.S.A., and was born with sunglasses on and wears them 24/7. Monday May 4th, 11th, 18th, June 1st and 8th from 6-8pm A 5 week course on Making Quilted Clothing: The Vest for $125: This 5-week course with Sarah King introduces concepts from quilting and piecing and puts them into garment making in a format supportive to beginner and experienced sewists. Over five sessions, students will start from fitting and sizing a vest pattern then move to piecing and quilting and finishing. This class will lean on improvised piecing techniques but can accommodate more traditional quilting if the students prefer it.

Are You Bookish? Come to the first meeting of Book Arts Club to make an accordion book and help shape the future of Book Arts Club! Bring your ideas, curiosities, skills or no skills. Bring books you’ve made for Show ‘n’ Tell, and/or ideas for books you’d like to make. This first meeting of Book Arts Club will be FREE as we co-create our vision. Feel free to bring your own materials or use provided Looky Scrap materials in making your accordion book.

This month's book structure is the Linked Hinge Binding from Alisa Golden, author of Making Handmade Books: a soft-cover structure with folded and glued tabs that create a beautiful open-spine binding. Have a favorite sweater that has a hole? Jeans with a torn out knee? Canvas bag that is losing its handle? A button that has come off? Bring your clean item to the GPL Makerspace on the third Tuesday of the month between 2:00 - 4:00 pm, and let us brainstorm a solution to mend your item that you can do! We will help you figure out the fix and maybe even get you started on your way to mending your item. We have sewing machines, simple hand sewing tools for basic mending repairs. Participants are expected to have basic sewing skills. Pre-registration is preferred, and drop-ins are welcome. Email us at [email protected] to tell us what you plan to bring to the mending clinic. Learn all about making comics with author Jared Sarnie, creator of the upcoming graphic novel The Machine is Broken. Free copies of the book will be available at this workshop! No experience necessary, all supplies provided. Ages 13+. GPL’s Zine Club is an ongoing monthly meeting to learn new zine skills, share your work, and meet other zinesters. What’s a zine again? A zine is a DIY, self-published, print work, often on a subject that falls outside of what’s traditionally seen in publishing.
