Writers Read: Nisse Greenberg, Ernie Brill, Nina Gross
About This Event
Writers Read is a monthly opportunity for an audience to come and listen to local writers in an intimate environment. Each second Wednesday of the month, three writers read from their work, followed by a discussion facilitated by Lindy Whiton. These discussions have been eye opening, touching, and inspiring. Audiences have left the venue ready to write.
Nisse Greenberg has been writing at nisse.substack.com for a while in an attempt to document the process of writing about a civilization’s collapse as I’m living through it. I enjoy refusing the third person, and that’s probably why I gravitated towards personal storytelling, which is where I’ve spent most of my art practice. I’m also an educator and a food activist.
Ernie Brill is a lifetime “goodt-roublle maker” in the civil rights, antiwar, strong unions, and better puns movements. He’s published the pioneering fiction about hospital workers, “I Looked Over Jordan and Other Stories(Boston, South End Press 1980), and the poetry collection Journeys of Voices and Choices (Wendell, Ma. Human Error Press). He is sweating over a novel about the historical 1968 student strike against racism at San Franciico State that helped change the face of high education. He has served as the fiction editor for magazines TRA (Towards Revolutionary Art), Z Magazine, and has worked on the editorial board of Monthly Revue.
Nina Gross is a musician, poet, playwright who values kindness, spontaneity and martial awareness. Her words have been included in anthologies and presentations of the Straw Dog Writers’ Guild, Cutthroat, Silkworm, The Montague Reporter, Suzuki World Magazine, Fade to Black, and Local Access to Valley Arts. Her play inheritance, featured in LAVA’s On the Boards Play reading series, is now ready for full production.
