Where Have all the Hippies Gone: Local Author talk with Nina Keller

05.26.26.600pm

About This Event

Join us at the Greenfield Public Library on Tuesday, May 26 in the library’s Conference Room at 6:00pm for a local author talk with Nina Keller on her book Where Have all the Hippies Gone.

Once a hippie, always a hippie, if you know what hippie means. Some of us are recounted in
film, some in books, especially as interest swells about communal living. Hippie means more
than floral, feathered or beaded accessories. Rooted within Nina’s politically active commune,
are values, deeply tied to nature, rebellion against corporate and historical inheritance, the
challenge of authority, the eschewing of prescribed proprieties and of course, seeking some
form of love and peace.

This account takes readers through the formation, fiascos and phenomenon of personal and
collective ripening in the late 60’s and 70’s. What are the components that support the growth
of a wandering, inexperienced young woman to find her place and so her identity as an older
woman? Memorable conundrums and remedies remain despite subjective and therefore
damaged formulas. But images of courage and tenacity of communal farm members will hint
and even direct.

Nina Keller lives on a productive organic family farm in Wendell, MA. Some people call Nina the Chicken Lady, the painter and some call her Memom. She is calmest on her Capricornian clean dirt knees where she can heal.
