The Red-Tail: Local Author talk with Adam Sarlan
About This Event
Join us at the Greenfield Public Library on Monday, May 18 in the library’s Community Meeting Room at 6:30 pm for a local author talk with Daniel Sarlan on his book The Red-Tail.
Poetry lovers and birdwatchers unite for this evening of poetry reading! Come experience the writing of Adam Sarlan as he treats us to a personal reading from his chapbook entitled The Red Tail. The Red-Tail collects seventeen different birds important to the poet’s life- bluejays, cormorants, geese, egrets, and gulls, among others. The poems find a certain wisdom and friendship in these birds while studying their everyday habits and listening to their teachings, and challenges us to sit with the birds, listen to them, and learn from their lessons. This debut chapbook also explores the idea of living while mourning lost loved ones. The poet finds comfort and solace in nature amidst grief, and finds that a strong connection to nature helps one begin to live a life of happiness and self-acceptance again after tragedy.
Adam Sarlan is the author of The Red-Tail (Bottlecap Press, 2025). His poems and essays have also appeared in Wilderness House Literary Review, Portrait of New England, The Literary Hatchet, Laurel Moon, and elsewhere. He lives in Massachusetts.
