Raging Bull: When Jake LaMotta steps into a boxing ring and obliterates his opponent, he’s a prizefighter. But when he treats his family and friends the same way, he’s a ticking time bomb, ready to go off at any moment. Though LaMotta wants his family’s love, something always seems to come between them. Perhaps it’s his violent bouts of paranoia and jealousy. This kind of rage helped make him a champ, but in real life, he winds up in the ring alone.

Scorsese’s won a total of 11 Academy Awards with 91 nominations, including a win for Best Director for The Departed. Five of his films have been selected for preservation by the Library of Congress in the National Film Registry. In 1997, long before some of his best films were made, the American Film Institute had already awarded Scorsese its Lifetime Achievement Award. Raging Bull sits at #4 on the list of the AFI’s greatest movies ever made. In 2007, Time magazine listed Scorsese as one of the 100 most influential people in the world
