Kenya’s “Queen of Soul” ATEMI at The LAVA Center

A special collaboration of Música Franklin and The LAVA Center:

Kenyan singer, songwriter and entertainer Atemi Oyungu will be featured at The LAVA Center Tuesday, August 4, 6:00 p.m.

Call it Neo-Afro Soul! A mix of neo-soul, Afro-fusion and Afro-Pop, Atemi’s sound has been described as “Miriam Makeba meeting Jill Scott;” she has been called Kenya’s Queen of Soul and Kenya’s own Aretha Franklin.

Her surprise appearance in Greenfield is thanks to Orice Jenkins, Executive Director of Música Franklin, who invited her to meet the young people of Música Franklin in their after-school program, and to stay on to offer a special performance at The LAVA Center.

Doors open at 5:30, and the performance begins at 6:00.

Admission is by sliding scale donation.
