
“FABULOUS 40’S FILMS WITH JONATHAN BOSCHEN”: “THE MALTESE FALCON” (1941)

Greenfield Mass. – On Monday May 4th, the Greenfield Garden Cinemas and Jonathan Boschen will host their final Fabulous 40’s Film with the definitive film noir movie “The Maltese Falcon”. This movie, which is one of Boschen’s favorites, was produced and distributed by Warner Brother’s Pictures, and stars Humphrey Bogart and Mary Astor. Admission is $11 for adults, and $8:50 seniors and students, and FREE for kids 14 and under.
The 1941 film “The Maltese Falcon” was the third screen adaption of the 1930 novel of the same name written by Dashiell Hammett. The story follows Detective Sam Spade (portrayed by Humphrey Bogart), who becomes involved with a mysterious group of criminals portrayed by Mary Astor, Peter Lorre, and Sydney Greenstreet, all searching for a priceless statuette known as the Maltese Falcon. The movie made its grand premiere in New York City on October 3, 1941 and went into general release a few weeks later on October 18, where it was well received by critics and the general public. The movie made its first showing in Greenfield at the Lawler Theatre on Sunday January 4, 1942 where it played for four days.
