Every Vote Counts exhibit closing + Food, Inc. 2 screening & discussion
About This Event
The LAVA Center is excited to announce a “double bill” of an evening on Friday, Nov. 8, beginning at 5 p.m.
A. L. R. Keaton’s “Every Vote Counts” voting booth installation, which has been on display at LAVA for the past two months, encourages visitors to enter it, read and add to the graffiti on its walls, and to cast a ballot for a candidate, a cause, an interest, a hope, a dream. The ballot box will be opened and results announced at 5:30 p.m.
At 6 p.m., there will be a screening of Food, Inc. 2. Rotten Tomatoes reviews describes it as “timely and urgent,” noting, “Seeking solutions, the film introduces innovative farmers, food producers, workers’ rights activists, and prominent legislators who are… fighting to create a more sustainable future.” The screening will be followed by a brief update on the now-expired Farm Bill and sharing of local resources and organizations working on behalf of farmers and consumers to ensure access to healthy food.
There is no admission charge, though donations are always welcome. LAVA Humanities programming is supported in part by grants from Mass Humanities, The Markham-Nathan Fund for Social Justice and Greening Greenfield. The LAVA Center strives to make its programming and events accessible to the widest possible range of community members.
