“Diaspora Stories: Hartford” Screening and Talk Back with Producer Jocelyn Pleasant, presented by Música Franklin

Música Franklin and the LAVA Center invite you to join artist Jocelyn Pleasant for a screening of her documentary, Diaspora Stories: Hartford on Saturday, April 11th, from 12:30-2 at the LAVA Center. Diaspora Stories: Hartford is a three-part docuseries highlighting the history and intergenerational nature of Hartford, Connecticut’s African and African Diasporic arts community. The series focuses on the journey of different artists who have contributed to the development of Hartford’s thriving arts community over the years, with a combination of interviews and new performance footage that features original music and arrangements by The Lost Tribe. Jocelyn Pleasant is a percussionist, drummer, educator, and currently pursuing a PhD in Ethnomusicology at Wesleyan University. She is the leader of The Lost Tribe, which is a collective of musicians that research, remix, and redefine the musical traditions of the African Diaspora. This event will take place at the Local Access to the Valley Arts (LAVA) Center in Greenfield, MA (324 Main St) and is free and open to the public. This program is funded in part by the New England States Touring program of the New England Foundation for the Arts, made possible with funding from the National Endowment for the Arts and the six New England state arts agencies.

Música Franklin y el LAVA Center le invitan a unirse a la artista Jocelyn Pleasant para la proyección de su documental Diaspora Stories: Hartford, el sábado 11 de abril, de 12:30 a 2:00pm, en el LAVA Center. Diaspora Stories: Hartford es una docuserie de tres partes que destaca la historia y la naturaleza intergeneracional de la comunidad artística africana y de la diáspora africana de Hartford, Connecticut. La serie se centra en el recorrido de diversos artistas que han contribuido al desarrollo de la próspera comunidad artística de Hartford a lo largo de los años, combinando entrevistas con nuevas grabaciones de actuaciones que incluyen música original y arreglos de The Lost Tribe.
