Artist Statement

Chaosism begins with surrender — to the paint, to the texture, to whatever emerges when control steps aside.

The Violet Phase is the first breath of the Rainbow Arc. Violet because every story begins in the quiet before color fully arrives. These canvases were built in layers — texture first, then glaze, then light finding its way into the hollows. The veins you see weren’t planned. They arrived.

I paint what the universe whispers. The Arc is how I listen.
Artist Bio

Donna Barrett is a self-taught mixed media artist and originator of Chaosism, an art movement rooted in the belief that beauty emerges from creative chaos.

A juried artist, Barrett has exhibited at the Lava Center and Artspace Greenfield, and presented her debut solo exhibition “Chaos on a Plate: The Banquet” in March 2026.

The works presented here are part of the Rainbow Arc — a 63-canvas conceptual installation progressing through seven phases of color and emotion, with the Violet Phase marking an early chapter in that body of work.
