Wander around a carnival and you’ll see it all: beauty, heartbreak, gaudiness, mystery, ugliness the pleasures are simultaneously cheap and dear.

An eerie nostalgia is baked into both a Polaroid photograph and into the carnival experience.

“Carnival Studies is a series of photographs I took over several carnival seasons in Massachusetts. With two exceptions the photos were all made with a Polaroid camera on instant film. This older photographic technology suits the carnival experience, which is always kind of timeless and haunting.” – Lisa Beskin
